Medicare Rebates for Psychology Services
At Eutierria Psychology, we understand that accessing mental health support is essential, and Medicare rebates can help make therapy more affordable.
What Is the Medicare Rebate?
Under the Better Access Initiative, Medicare provides rebates for psychological services to individuals with a valid Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP) from their GP, psychiatrist, or pediatrician.
How Much Is the Rebate?
-
Individual sessions: Medicare offers a rebate of $96.16 per 50+ minute session with a registered psychologist
-
Group therapy sessions: Rebates for group therapy sessions vary, with a standard rebate of $36 for a 1-hour session.
How Many Sessions Are Covered?
Medicare covers up to 10 individual sessions and 10 group therapy sessions per calendar year under a Mental Health Treatment Plan.
How to Claim Your Rebate
-
Visit your GP to discuss your mental health needs and request a Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP).
-
Book an appointment with a psychologist at Eutierria Psychology.
-
Pay for your session upfront— you can claim it later through Medicare.
Private Health vs. Medicare
If you have private health insurance, you may choose to claim through either Medicare or your health fund—but not both for the same session.
